Product Description

The truss head is the widest standard head style – 2.2 to 2.8 times the shank diameter. That is significantly wider than a round head (1.6–1.8×) and wider than a universal head (2.0–2.2×). The extra width is the whole point: it spreads clamping force over a larger area, preventing truss head semi hollow rivets from pulling through soft or brittle materials.

This is not a niche fastener. This is the fastener you reach for when a round head pulls through, when a universal head is not wide enough, when you are fastening plastic, composite, thin sheet, or wood.

One Rivet, One Job – Stop Pull‑Through

The truss head does not offer a low profile like a flat head. It does not offer a flush finish like a countersunk head. It offers one thing: the widest possible bearing surface.

Head Style Head / Shank Ratio What It Is Best For
Round 1.6–1.8× Metal‑to‑metal, structural joints
Universal 2.0–2.2× Mixed materials, general purpose
Flat 2.0–2.5× Low profile, clearance‑limited
Truss 2.2–2.8× Soft materials, plastics, composites, oversized holes

If your material is soft, brittle, or thin – and you need to keep the fastener in place – the truss head is the right answer.

Standards – GB/T 1014 and Q 454

We manufacture truss head semi hollow rivets to established standards:

Standard Scope Head Style Diameter Range
GB/T 1014-1986 Chinese national standard Large mushroom/truss head 2 – 8 mm
Q 454-1999 Chinese automotive standard Mushroom head 2 – 10 mm
Q 454-2012 Non‑ferrous version Mushroom head 2 – 10 mm

The truss head is also known as a "large mushroom head" in Chinese standards. We can produce to any of these specifications – or to your custom drawing.

Materials and Finishes – What We Offer

Materials: Carbon steel (zinc‑plated), stainless steel (304/316, passivated), brass (C2680), copper (C11000), aluminum (1100/5052/5056)

Finishes: Zinc‑plated, nickel‑plated, passivated, lacquered, black oxide, plain

One Real Application – Plastic Storage Bin Handle Attachment

A manufacturer of plastic storage bins needed to attach metal handles to the bin bodies. Each bin used four rivets. The previous round head rivets pulled through the plastic after repeated lifting – the narrow bearing surface could not handle the load. The customer tried adding washers – it worked, but added parts and assembly time.

We supplied zinc‑plated steel truss head semi hollow rivets – 4.0mm shank, 11.0mm head, 10.0mm barrel length. The extra‑wide head distributed the load over a larger area – no more pull‑through, no washers needed. The customer tested 1,000 rivets across 250 bins. After 10,000 lift cycles with a 20kg load, zero failures. They now order our rivets in batches of 300,000 pieces annually.

About Our Factory – Who Makes Your Rivets

We are a Dongguan‑based fastener manufacturer with over a decade of experience in cold heading. Our facility runs 45 cold‑heading machines capable of producing rivets from 0.8mm to 10mm in diameter – from tiny electronic components to larger industrial fasteners.

0.8mm to 10mm diameters – From tiny electronics rivets to larger industrial fasteners. We cover the range.

Standard or custom – We run high‑volume orders on our 45 cold‑heading machines. We also handle custom lengths, non‑standard head profiles, and special finishes. If you have a drawing, we can make it.

Quick sampling – We stock wire for the most common diameters, so we can ship samples in 5–7 days. No waiting weeks to test a rivet.

10+ years of experience on the floor – Our senior technicians have been doing this long enough to know how to hold tolerances that newer operators cannot. They understand how wire behaves, how dies wear, and how to adjust a machine before it drifts out of spec.

Every batch checked – Cavity depth, head geometry, shank diameter, hardness – we verify every batch before it leaves the factory.

Why Customers Choose Us – Real Feedback

Manufacturers who use our truss head semi hollow rivets come back to us for the same reasons:

Widest bearing surface – 2.2–2.8× shank diameter stops pull‑through

No washers needed – The wide head replaces the need for separate hardware

Consistent geometry – Every batch matches the drawing

Quick samples – 5–7 days, no waiting

We work with manufacturers in plastic products, automotive interiors, electronics enclosures, appliances, HVAC, and signage – across North America, Europe, and Asia.

Two Questions We Answer Often

Q: "Can you manufacture custom truss head semi hollow rivets based on our specific design requirements?"

A: Yes – custom rivets are a significant part of our business. We manufacture rivets to your exact specifications, including:

Non‑standard shank diameters – beyond our standard 0.8–8.0mm range

Custom head dimensions – larger or smaller head diameter, different head height, or modified head profile

Special lengths – longer barrels for thick material stacks, or shorter barrels for thin materials

Unique materials or finishes – if you need a material not in our standard lineup, we can source it

Tighter tolerances – we can hold ±0.02mm on critical dimensions for precision applications

The process is straightforward: send us your drawing (PDF or 3D model), and our engineers will review it for manufacturability. We provide DFM feedback, confirm pricing, produce first articles, and ship samples for your approval – all before mass production begins. Custom tooling lead time is 15–20 days. If you have a drawing, we can make it.

Q: "What is the maximum diameter you can produce for truss head semi hollow rivets?"

A: Our 45 cold‑heading machines can produce rivets up to 10mm in shank diameter. For diameters above 10mm, we can discuss custom tooling – but for most industrial applications, the 0.8–10mm range covers the vast majority of requirements. The truss head diameter scales with the shank – at 10mm shank, the head diameter is typically 22–28mm, providing an exceptionally wide bearing surface for heavy‑duty plastic or composite assemblies.
