Steel Half Hollow Rivets

Steel Half Hollow Rivets

Steel half hollow rivets made from Nuote Metals are mechanical connectors with a hollow tail structure, secured by a snap-fit mechanism using a flanging at the tail. Its main body consists of a solid shank and a hollow tail. During installation, axial pressure is applied using specialized tools, causing the thin tail wall to plastically deform and fold outward, forming a snap-fit structure with a diameter larger than the hole diameter, achieving a non-removable mechanical lock.

Product Description

Introduction of steel half hollow rivets

You can spot a steel half hollow rivet by its partly hollow tail. It’s different from fully hollow rivets—only about one-third to half of the shank is hollow at the end. This keeps some of the strength you’d get from a solid rivet, but still makes it pretty easy to work with, kind of like a hollow one. So you get a nice mix of performance and convenience.

Depending on where they’re used, these rivets might need different kinds of coatings. Popular options are galvanizing, nickel plating, Dacromet coating, or sometimes just passivation. These don’t just make them look better—they also help fight rust and make the rivets last longer.

Different Materials Of Rivets – Features and Advantages

Material Description Advantages Common Applications
Steel Strong, durable, low-cost material High strength, can be plated or coated, widely available Construction, automotive, machinery, general assembly
Stainless Steel Corrosion-resistant steel alloy Won't rust, handles weather and moisture, long-lasting Marine equipment, outdoor gear, medical devices, food processing
Aluminum Lightweight, silvery metal Very light, resists corrosion, easy to install Aircraft, electronics, lightweight structures, sports equipment
Brass Gold-colored copper-zinc alloy Looks nice, good conductor, won't rust Decorative hardware, electrical components, musical instruments
Copper Soft, reddish metal Excellent conductivity, develops patina over time Electrical grounding, roofing, decorative work, jewelry

Product Feature And Application

Thanks to their balanced features, steel half hollow rivets are used in all sorts of fields.

For instance, in electronics and electrical work, they’re great for fixing circuit board brackets or putting together device casings. You can even get conductive or non-magnetic types to match what different gadgets need.

Over in the auto industry, these rivets help hold interior parts in place and fasten wiring harness brackets. Car rivets often need extra rust protection and have to be made to very exact sizes.

In furniture making, steel half hollow rivets come in handy for putting together things like office desks and storage units. They’re especially useful in spots that might need to be taken apart and put back together now and then, since you can just drill them out and replace them when needed.

Different Rivet Surface Finishes – Features and Advantages

Finish Type Description Advantages Common Applications
Zinc Plated Thin zinc coating applied by electroplating Low cost, good basic rust protection, bright silver look Indoor use, furniture, appliances, general hardware
Yellow Zinc Zinc with chromate for gold color Better corrosion resistance than clear zinc, decorative Automotive underhood, industrial equipment
Nickel Plated Shiny silver coating Smooth finish, good corrosion resistance, looks like chrome Electronics, decorative trim, consumer goods
Chrome Plated Bright, mirror-like finish Very shiny, hard surface, premium look Automotive trim, motorcycles, show pieces
Black Oxide Chemical coating turns metal black Matte finish, reduces light glare, mild rust resistance Tools, firearms, optical equipment, military
Plain/Unplated Natural metal surface, no coating Lowest cost, good for indoor use where rust isn't an issue Temporary assemblies, hidden parts, some packaging
Passivated Chemical treatment for stainless steel Removes impurities, improves natural corrosion resistance Medical, food processing, clean environments
Anodized Electrochemical coating for aluminum Hard surface, comes in colors, excellent corrosion resistance Outdoor gear, electronics, decorative parts
Galvanized Hot-dip zinc coating Thick zinc layer, very rust-resistant Outdoor construction, marine, heavy equipment
Phosphate Manganese or zinc phosphate coating Good for paint adhesion, holds oil, prevents galling Automotive parts, fasteners that need lubrication
Brass Plated Thin brass coating over steel Looks like solid brass at lower cost Decorative hardware, light fixtures, furniture
Copper Plated Copper coating over base metal Good conductivity, looks like copper Electrical components, decorative uses
Tin Plated Silver-white tin coating Good solderability, food-safe, corrosion resistant Electronics, food industry, battery contacts
